RAND Corporation puts the AI project failure rate at over 80%. MIT’s research found that 95% of generative AI pilots stall before delivering measurable business impact. These are not fringe studies. Every customer deployment made the product better. Field work became product intelligence. The FDE was not just solving one customer’s problem. They were improving the platform for every future customer at the same time.

This is why companies running the FDE model compound their product advantage over time. Each deployment teaches the product something a lab environment never could.

Why AI Companies Are Rebuilding Palantir FDE Model Now

The Palantir model sat relatively quietly inside enterprise software for years. Then generative AI arrived and created a deployment crisis that made the model suddenly relevant to every company shipping AI products.

AI systems are not deterministic. A model that performs consistently in testing degrades in production as data drifts, knowledge bases go stale, and edge cases appear that no one anticipated. The companies winning at enterprise AI in 2026 are not the ones with the best models.

They are the ones with engineers who can make those models work reliably inside messy, real-world business environments. Engineers who own outcomes rather than code. Who understand the business well enough to translate it into precise technical problems worth solving.

Palantir figured this out under extreme conditions two decades ago. The rest of the AI industry is arriving at the same conclusion now, under the pressure of hundreds of billions in spending that is not delivering the returns it promised.

The deployment gap is the defining problem of enterprise AI right now. The companies that close it will deploy faster, retain customers longer, and build products that compound with each new engagement.

The ones still treating AI deployment as a pure engineering problem will keep hitting the same wall, with the same expensive results.
