Why People Believe Myths About SEO

Myths About SEO: The subject of SEO (search engine optimization) myths and schemes has been a popular subject recently. When hearing this misinformation repeated enough times, they start to sound believable. The info can be shared in blog posts, podcasts, social media, and conference presentations, and before you know it, another SEO myth is born.

Even if searching for your favorite game slot online, people need to understand the myths and try to share the ones they’ve learned. The following are some of the top reasons people believe SEO myths and how experts deal with them.

Myths Are Easy to Fall For

Many clients view SEO as free traffic. Unfortunately, it is sometimes so over-simplified that people sometimes think all you have to do is just a few steps, and you can sit back and wait for all the traffic and increased revenue. Unfortunately, more often than not, the answers that are too good to be true are just the basics of SEO.

Some of these easy solutions are activities that can inflict harm on your business and customers, which is something that can’t be ignored. The way to fight all the wrong information is to find better information. When discovering lousy advice, it’s always a good idea to do more research to find the content that proves it’s bad information.

Too Much Information

There is an endless amount of information available online about SEO, such as studies, ebooks, guides, podcasts, videos, and so on, creating an information overload. Unfortunately, there is also an endless amount of misinformation available.

The best way to approach it is through communication. By gathering information from a trustworthy source, you can use it to let a client know that it’s not a good idea and educate them about the potential damage the practice could have on a strategy.

If It Ranks High on Google, It Must Be Accurate

People sometimes believe if a website ranks well on Google, the content must be trustworthy. For example, people may quote a statistic and type in a keyword. Then they’ll use the number one result and quote stats from that source. Later, they’ll realize when checking the sources that a statistic or statement may have been taken out of context and became something it never was.

Google is not dependable when looking for the best or most correct answer, as the algorithms can’t be entirely accurate and don’t verify content. However, for most of its SEO topics, it can support the search’s recommendations with a link showing what Google recommends.

It Seems Like A Legitimate Source

Many of us have seen famous personalities and websites publish questionable or false information in the past. Unfortunately, some SEOs are more interested in creating popular clickbait than something more accurate. These creators can sometimes make money from toolmakers but are no help to SEO customers who want to run successful businesses.

Every site that publishes info will occasionally pass on wrong information. The reputable ones will correct the information and admit when they’ve made a mistake, which isn’t always true in SEO. They will sometimes ignore the correct information and occasionally stand by their false content.

When dealing with clickbait or wrong information, find out where the info originated and try to lead them towards a few other credible resources.

How To Deal With SEO Myths

By taking an educational approach, you can address the broader details of how Google works and why things aren’t always included in that. There are a few questions you can ask for assessing risk versus goals. First, ask yourself if the recommendation came from Google, and secondly if there was a study conducted with any type of methodology.

There are many intelligent business owners that don’t treat SEO as if it’s a quick solution with no effort involved. As a result, it’s easier to work with clients interested in integrating SEO into a broader digital strategy.
